Why Soy
We use good, old fashioned, American grown soybeans to create our environmentally friendly Johnson Candles. Purchasing Johnson Candles is an excellent way to support American farmers. We subject our wax to be analyzed and scrutinized for the presence of pesticides, herbicides and genetically modified materials by experienced third party Accredited Laboratories. All results prove that Johnson Candles contain none of these substances.
It is a natural non-toxic, biodegradable wax; therefore, it is an excellent choice for those wishing to burn natural, environmentally friendly candles in their home or workplace. Although once fragrance oil or dye is added to Johnson Candles they cannot be defined as 100% completely natural.
Soy wax burns cooler (slower) than paraffin, therefore increasing your burn time. Johnson Candles produce very little (if any) soot and smoke. To keep smoke at a minimum, follow these simple candle tips.
- Each time before you light your candle, trim the wick down to 1/4".
- Do not allow wick trimmings to fall into your wax melt pool.
- Burn the candles in areas free from drafts.
You can burn a candle too long. The maximum recommended burn time is 4 hours per burn. Burning longer than the recommended time is also dangerous, especially when combined with improper wick trimming. Although we use heat-safe glass, an improperly trimed wick can create a high flame and temperature forming a deep melt pool and fatigue the glass.
Soy wax cleans up easily with soap and water, but remember it is still a wax and should not be poured down the drain.
The Natural Characteristics... You may notice that the top of your candle has liquid beads or is "sweating". This occurs from temperature changes the jar candle is exposed too(recieving candles during the cold months and bringing them into a warm house). It usually goes away after adjusting to the room's temperature, or after the first burn. You may notice that your candle has frost, or white snowflake patterns spots on the sides. You may notice some wet spots on your candle where the wax has pulled away from the surface of the glass. This is caused by temperature changes and is simply due to the expansion and contraction of the wax. All these are natural characteristic of soy wax and in no way affect the quality of the candle. Soy candles are very sensitive to temperature and light so be aware of the location when placing or storing your soy candle. Place your candle away from sunlight, fluorescent lighting and sources of heat. We know that once you try Johnson Candles you will smell the difference and you'll never want to go back to paraffin again. Enjoy your soy!
